Meet Lindsey Spencer, LMHC
Trauma and Relationship Therapist in American Fork, Utah
and virtually throughout Utah
Hi, my name is Lindsey and I am a licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in American Fork, Utah and virtually throughout Utah. I help people reprogram their nervous system to move from constant survival mode, to felt safety. I have seen the impacts that trauma can have on the mind and body. I know what it is like to feel like your responses do not belong to you, but are preprogrammed.
I know the impact trauma can have on your daily life, work, and relationships. It is exhausting to always be on guard, overthinking and masking emotional pain. I will help you retrain your stress response and find inner peace. So you can show up how you want to, without the extra weight. I utilize a gentle approach to EMDR and Somatic Therapy. The skills you learned to survive the past were necessary and brilliant ways that you kept yourself safe. But that does not mean you need to continue using them. I will guide you out of surviving and into thriving, replacing protective habits with sustainable coping strategies.
A grounded space to heal old wounds, regulate your nervous system, and build thriving relationships.
Therapy with me is…
~Two humans having a real conversation.
~Where we go the speed of your nervous system. No rushing, no unrealistic expectations.
~ A space to model and practice a secure attachment.
~Where we focus on the bodies response, not just the story being told.
~You bringing your expertise about yourself and me bringing my expertise about the nervous system, trauma, and relational healing.
~A place you can express yourself how you choose with no filtering. F-bombs are encouraged!
Therapy with me is not…
X About “fixing” you. You are not broken.
X A rigid, clinical environment. It is instead a place of warmth, coziness and unfiltered expression.
X A place where you or your survival mechanisms are shamed.
X A lecture hall.
X A place where you can fail. Just showing up, you’ve already succeeded.
X A space for only sadness. All emotions are welcome, including happiness and laughter!
X Unsolicited advice and generic responses.

Out of the Therapy Office…
Outside the office, my happy place is at home — baking sweet treats, getting lost in a book, working on a puzzle, and cuddling with my two dogs. I’m a total homebody who thrives on creating cozy vibes and happily never leaving the house. At the same time, a part of me is a total thrill-seeker at heart. I love a good adrenaline rush and have done everything from bungee jumping to swimming with sharks.
Canyoneering
One of my favorite ways to explore the outdoors is inside a canyon. Over the years I have been able to go canyoneering in hundreds of canyons across Utah, Colorado, Arizona, California, and the Dominican Republic.
Dog Mom
The longer you spend with me, the more likely you are to hear about my two pups. This is Acadia the Golden Retriever and Archie the mini Golden Doodle. Both of them were named after National Parks.
Skiing
I take full advantage of the many resorts we have within a few hours drive. I first started snow boarding when I was in High School. But had the opportunity to learn to ski as an adult. I was happy to make the switch.

A 15 minute consultation call is about taking time to connect, see if we are a good fit, and discuss what you are hoping to get out of therapy. There is no pressure to schedule during the consultation call, you are the one in control of deciding if we move forward.
The first few appointments will be about getting to know you and building a plan for moving forward. This may look like you doing more of the talking, doing assessments, and getting to know each other. I want to build a therapeutic relationship with you where you feel heard, respected, and important.
-
At the foundation of my therapeutic approach is a belief that you are the expert. I believe that you know what is best for yourself, what you need, and how to improve your life. I am simple here to guide you to discover the answers.
I couple that approach with the knowledge that body and mind connection are important for true healing. I utilize a gentle approach to EMDR and Somatic Therapy, moving at the speed of your nervous system. So you will feel grounded, safe, and supported throughout. I started out my career working as a Recreational Therapist. I worked for several years in Residential Treatment for teenage girls. I got to take them hiking, canyoneering, do ropes course challenges with them, and teach them how to use recreation to heal.
I began to feel like I wanted to be able to do more for the people I helped. I saw a lot of these girls coming from broken homes and severe trauma. I knew I was limited in what I could offer them. I went back to school so I could better help people heal from trauma and thrive in relationships.
