Rewrite your past without getting lost in it
EMDR & Somatic Therapy in American Fork, Utah.
Services offered virtually throughout Utah
What if you could reprogram your brain? Well, that is exactly what EMDR does. EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is not traditional talk therapy. It utilizes bilateral stimulation (side-to-side eye movements, alternating gentle vibration, or auditory tones) to put you into a state of deep brain processing.
Somatic Therapy is a type of approach that focuses on how trauma shows up in your body. It goes beyond grounding techniques and breath work to identify where emotions are felt in the body. Through movement and mindfulness it allows you to release stress stored in the body. Partnered together, EMDR and Somatic Therapy will allow you to process the pain of the past, without reliving it.
Heal from yesterday, thrive today, and have hope for tomorrow.

Meet Lindsey Spencer, LMHC
EMDR and Somatic Therapist in American Fork, Utah.
Hi, my name is Lindsey and I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in American Fork, Utah. I help people heal from past wounds that are keeping them stuck in survival mode. I know what it feels like to be stuck in shame, guilt, or fear. To feel like something must be broken inside you, and you need to be fixed. Together we will work through past wounds and beliefs that are keeping you captive.
Trauma changes your nervous system. It makes it so that everyday feels like a threat, rest is unsafe, and rejection is intolerable. When our nervous system is in a trauma response it prioritizes safety over connect, fear over trust, and protection over peace. With the help of EMDR and Somatic Therapy, I will help you rewire the way your nervous system responds.
I wont rush your nervous system. We will take the time to make sure that you feel safe, grounded and stable before beginning reprocessing. I know how important it is for your body to know that it is in good hands in order to put it’s guards down. I will give you the tools to be able to confidently dive into the past, knowing you will not be reliving it. I will help you reprocess the trauma with one foot in the present, and one foot in the past, allowing you to feel in control the whole time.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
EMDR utilizes bilateral stimulation (like side-to-side eye movements, alternating taps, or auditory tones) to help your brain reprocess stuck memories and rewrite their impact.
Somatic Therapy focuses on where trauma shows up in physical sensations in the body. It allows you to connect your mind and body while trauma often teaches us to avoid that connection.
Together, they address underlying issues causing present day distress, and physical stress stored in the body.

This is a process that is not linear, and is different for every individual. Some people are ready for reprocessing and they may move right into it after several sessions. But in other cases, it can take years to break down the defenses the body has created around the trauma, before reprocessing can begin.
I am constantly reassessing where you are and will let you know what I predict the timeline will be.
This approach has been shown to work more effective and quicker at shifting cognition than talk therapy. So whatever phase of treatment we are in, or how ever long we stay their, you will experience relief and shifts in your nervous system.
-
No! That’s one of the strengths of EMDR and Somatic Therapy. Unlike traditional talk therapy, you don’t need to unpack every painful detail. We focus on how the memory is physically stored in your nervous system and process it internally without forcing you to re-live it out loud.
-
We will spend a lot of time making sure that you have all the tools to keep yourself safe and to feel in control. We keep one foot in the present at all times, and you can always stop at anytime.
We also wont dive straight into the most difficult memories. We will build tolerance and work up to them. Even focusing on the less activated memories that are connected to the heaviest ones, can help desensitize the whole network.
-
Absolutely! Trauma is not always a single devastating event. It is anything that happened too fast and was too much for the body to digest at the time.
EMDR and Somatic Therapy can help with chronic stress, emotional neglect, difficult breakups, persistent anxiety, negative beliefs about your worth, and more.
